TM 212 - A fly on the wall

212 - What event do you wish you could have been a "fly on the wall" for?
Kara didn't want to talk about it, not that I had too much of a chance to bring it up afterwards, or really, an inclination to. Dee definitely wasn't about to discuss it and there was no way I was going to broach the subject, not after things seemed to be getting so much better between us.
But it happened. Gods, I made it happen when I ordered Dee to rescue Kara off that rock.
Dee knew. I realize that now. I also realize that there was no way she couldn't have known, since it wasn't as if Kara and I were really being discreet. We couldn't have been more obvious about it if we'd frakked on the nose of the Raptor that Kara just so happened to constantly be assigned to fly from Galactica to the algae planet's surface. Everyone had to know.
And the truth be told, she didn't make much of a secret about knowing, either. I remember long days of cold and frustrated looks, and of very cold nights in our quarters, each of us huddled on our side of the narrow bed. Dee snapped at me, prodded me with barely veiled comments about how odd it was that a certain Captain was always showing up planetside so much more often than others. Basically, she was giving me every opportunity to come clean, and I didn't.
So that was the Lt. Anastasia Dualla who obeyed my order to track down Capt. Kara Thrace's downed Raptor and attempt a rescue. I sent my wife to save the life of a woman who was for all intents and purposes my lover.
According to both their post-mission debriefings, while Kara was attending to badly burned hands, Dee found her and together made repairs to the ship's avionics. Then, under Kara's direction, Dee piloted the Raptor up and away from the planet in time to escape its destruction. That's all the reports read, all they every admitted to, either to me or anyone else.
But that wasn't all that happened, I know. Maybe they argued-- probably they argued. Maybe Dee tried to ask Kara why she was with me, or what Kara thought she was doing. Hell, maybe she even asked Kara if she loved me. I don't know, and I never will.
Maybe that's best.

Date: 2008-01-08 08:47 pm (UTC)You REALLY just nailed it. It had to have been icy beforehand. Just a little, what with how often Kara was showing up. And then asking her and you have to figure both women were professional about it coming back (Dee DEFINITELY was). I just REALLY love this. LOVE.

Date: 2008-01-09 01:10 am (UTC)That's the trouble around here. Too many people all too willing to judge each other for things they don't understand. I'm not saying I'm less guilty of it than anyone else is, but for frak's sake. Can't anyone find anything new to talk about?Sir, I really don't think you want the answers to any of those questions. I stopped asking them a while ago, myself.

Not your questions specifically, but there's probably only one reason I wasn't in your situation. By the time I was with Cally, I'd had time to get over the previous woman in my life. No disrespect intended to Starbuck, but she wasn't letting you go anymore than you were letting her go.

Consider yourself lucky, Chief. And it was pretty well a mutual thing, sure, but... I still should've known better.
