267 - In medias res

They're going to do it. They're going to do it and there's nothing I can frakking do to stop them.

Why don't they see what they're doing? These people are supposed to represent their people of the fleet. They're supposed to use their judgment and their consciences to do what's best not just for the moment, and not just for what the popular opinion is supposed to be, but what's best overall. They're supposed to have the long-range view, take in the big picture. Instead, they're reacting in fear and paranoia.

They're being led around by the nose and they're doing it willingly.

Don't they realize what's happening? We've been through this before! I should know, I helped make it happen then. They're going to tear the fleet apart with their short-sightedness and their blind bowing to whatever Tom Zarek tells them to do.

He's a reactionary. He doesn't think about the future of the human race. All Zarek wants is to keep humanity running scared, because it means they're going to keep turning to the loudest and angriest voice, and that's always going to be him. It means that the under the table deals will still be made, and that power is always going to exist to be brokered and bought.

All Zarek wants is to stay king of his little hill, and he doesn't want to acknowledge that there's any more to the world around it.

They're going to strand us here in space, keep us limping along until we run out of fuel or people or the will to live. And then, humanity's going to just lay down and die because we'll be so damn tired of running.

The hands go up. The motion is carried, eleven to one.

Damn you, Tom Zarek. You're going to kill us all.

OOC: Love how this was written as if we're inside Lee's head. Just great.

OOC: Thank you! I just had to write it when the idea popped into my head.

OOC: Wow! Like I said to Sharon!mun, everything's coming to a head and the unfortunate thing is, any point anyone could make on either side of what's quickly becoming an unpassable line is completely valid. I found myself nodding and agreeing with Zarek, because the Fleet deserves to have a choice in whatever's going on at the top, but at the same time, he's just so wrong in the way he chooses to go about dealing with things.

The fear and paranoia have been well-earned by the Fleet at large, but if only someone would address those fears (and so far, no one's stepping up), the explosion could be minimalized.

Fantastic job!

OOC: It seriously is! The best kinds of conflicts really are when everyone is "right" and it comes down to who's tougher or stronger or more determined. And of course, on BSG, that also means they've got further to fall. *L*

Thanks!

OOC - A really beautiful piece there it's definitely a wonderful perspective on the issue. At least it hurried Zarek on the way to his destiny,

OOC: Thank you very much.
