215 - Seduction

It isn't like I never noticed. To be perfectly honest, it's not like a guy could not notice. Trapped inside a tin can for months, looking at the same faces day in and day out, don't let anybody tell you that after a while, they all become a blur and you don't notice anything anymore. That's crap.

I noticed. I noticed that being in shape and constantly working doesn't do many bad things to the female form. I noticed that Paramedic Ishay somehow found a way to ration out some kind of makeup that she was always put together, even in a little way, and I noticed that after eight weeks of basic, Maggie's face took on a leaner look that really suited her.

And I definitely noticed that Petty Officer Antastasia Dualla, one of the dozen soldiers in my hand-to-hand combat class looked pretty damn good. Between the slim, petite frame, the dark skin and those amazing eyes, I'm not about to say that I minded getting hand-to-hand with her, even when she was flipping my ass over her shoulder. Especially when she was, sometimes.

Maybe it was totally innocent when she ended up landing right on top of me when we were practicing that disarm, and maybe I pulled her down on purpose. And maybe she went with it on purpose, too.

There were looks after that. The kind of looks that turned really quickly into smirks and smiles and off-hand comments that were definitely flirting. It turned into enough that eventually Dee had to ask the question about exactly what it had turned into. Enough that when I woke up after ditching the Blackbird, I was pretty damn happy to have her face be the first one I saw. Enough that it ended up being everything it did.

Sometimes, that's all seduction is, just making a start. And sometimes, all that means is noticing.

Dad was standing to my left. I know that part of him had wanted to perform the ceremony himself-- which he could have, being the captain of the ship and all-- but as long as we had priests around that we could still get a hold of, then we'd make sure to get one. So, he had to make do with "just" being my best man, instead. When he'd raised an eyebrow at the idea, I'd told him that the chain of command fell to Helo next, and he'd laughed.

It wasn't as if no one had seen it coming. Dee had transferred from Galactica to Pegasus almost a month before we made the announcement, and there was no way the shipboard scuttlebutt missed the fact that although Pegasus' new communications officer had been assigned her own rack, she wasn't in it every night. I remember being so damn excited about the idea of marrying her, of making her my wife... of shouting out that she was the woman I wanted to spend the rest of my life with so loud that the Lords of Kobol would hear.

The chapel was a sea of dress grays and bronze sashes. I'd spent a good half an hour shining up every bit of metal that was still hanging onto mine. The priestess gave me a nod and a smile that was very clearly a sign that I wasn't the most nervous groom she'd ever seen, but I was definitely not the calmest.

When the music started, my head whipped around and I found Dee. More to the point, I found her eyes, and I just let myself get lost. Seriously, I don't remember if she'd managed to scare up an actual dress or if she'd opted for her dress grays, and I can't even remember who was her maid of honor, because there wasn't another woman on the ship right then.

The feeling that my collar had gotten tight I remember. The weight of the cord as it was knotted around our hands I remember. The words I sort of remember.

"... and in the sight of these people, and under the eyes of the Gods, I pronounce you bound and wed. So say we all."

You love her, don't you?

OOC: Aww! Poor Dee/Lee/Kara/Sam!

The best I could, which as it turned out, wasn't very well.

OOC: I know!

Well, if you're inclined and have an opportunity to put in a good word, it would be appreciated.

I could try.

I wish it would have worked, Lee. I really do.

You and me both, Karl.

I'm pretty sure I told you the night before that short, sweet, and small is the way to go, sir.

But I'll admit your ceremony had an epic feel to it. Maybe because of who you are, but it really seemed like the most special thing we had been a part of.

Hope you don't mind if I still prefer mine, though.

Kind of the same thing here, even if the details are a little fuzzy.

And completely understood, Chief.

Captain, I have to say, I can't fault your judgment here. It's quite sound, and your reflection shows a bit of understanding and reason as well.

Thank you, sir.
